Read the second definition carefully. On a Quiet Period day, D1 coaches cannot make in-person off-campus contact and cannot evaluate off campus. Both are prohibited. The Jupiter tournament site is off campus for every D1 school in the country.
The fall D1 Contact Period runs September 11 through October 11, 2026. The Quiet Period begins October 12, 2026 and runs through February 28, 2027. WWBA sits right at that edge. Four days inside the Contact Period. One day outside it.
What Are the D1 Contact Rules at WWBA, Day by Day?
On October 8, 9, 10, and 11, D1 coaches can initiate contact and evaluate players at WWBA. On October 12, the D1 Quiet Period begins. Both in-person off-campus contact and off-campus evaluation are prohibited at the tournament site that day. The table below shows exactly what shifts.

Is October 12 at WWBA Just a Quieter Version of October 11?
No. The shift on October 12 is not a degree of restriction. It is a complete change. On October 11, a D1 coach can approach your son, evaluate him, and start a full conversation. On October 12, all of that is prohibited. The calendar gives coaches no permissible recruiting work at the tournament site that final day.
On October 11, a D1 coach can:
- Walk up and start a conversation with your son at the venue
- Evaluate him from the stands
- Approach your family without any prior contact in place
On October 12, none of that is permitted. The Quiet Period prohibits in-person off-campus contact and in-person off-campus evaluation. Both. The same coach who crossed the field to introduce himself on October 11 cannot do that on October 12. He cannot evaluate at the venue either.
In practice, many D1 coaches will simply not be at the tournament in a recruiting capacity on October 12. A coach who was active on October 11 and then appears to pull back on October 12 is not losing interest in your son. He is following the calendar. These two behaviors look nearly identical to families who do not know the period changed overnight.
What Can D1 Coaches Still Do on October 12 at WWBA?
The Quiet Period closes in-person off-campus contact and evaluation. Phone calls, texts, and emails stay open. A brief greeting between your son and a D1 coach at the venue is permitted. A recruiting conversation is not, regardless of who starts it. Any real connection made on days one through four is still active and reachable on day five.
Under NCAA Bylaw 13.02.3, "contact" means any face-to-face encounter with dialogue that goes beyond a brief greeting. That applies regardless of who starts the conversation. A quick wave at the venue is fine. An actual recruiting conversation is not, whether the coach walks over to your son or your son walks over to the coach.
What stays open is any communication that is not in-person off-campus contact. A D1 coach can call, text, or email your son on October 12. Your son can call, text, or email the coach. If your family made a real connection with a D1 program on October 8, 9, 10, or 11, that relationship is still active on October 12. The right move is to use those channels rather than chase a conversation at the venue that the rules no longer permit.
The unofficial campus visit is another path that stays open during the Quiet Period. D1 coaches cannot come to you off campus. You can visit their campus. That option is open from October 12 through February 28, 2027.
Do D2 and NAIA Coaches Have Different Rules Than D1 at WWBA?
Yes. D2 baseball runs a Contact Period from August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027, with one Dead Period of November 9 through 11, 2026. D3, NAIA, and JUCO coaches have no NCAA-mandated recruiting calendar. Only D1 coaches are restricted on October 12 at WWBA. A D2 coach approaching your son that day is doing exactly what his calendar allows.
D2 baseball operates on a separate calendar from D1. D2 coaches can initiate in-person contact and evaluate your son on all five tournament days, including October 12.
D3, NAIA, and JUCO programs have no NCAA-mandated contact, quiet, or dead period recruiting calendar. Coaches at those programs are not subject to any of these restrictions.

Make sure his schedule puts him in front of programs that are a realistic roster fit for his profile. A conversation with a program that was never going to recruit his position is not recruiting. A conversation with a program that needs what he offers is.
On October 12, in-person D1 conversations close. What stays open is phone and email. Any connection made on days one through four is worth a follow-up message on day five. That is still a productive day if you use the right channels.
