I Was a Lost High School Baseball Player. Now I'm Building the Tool I Wish I Had.
The founder story behind BaseballPath, and why I built an honest recruiting evaluation tool after getting lost in the recruiting process myself.
By junior year, I'd sent emails to dozens of different college coaches. Most never responded. The ones who did told me I wasn't a fit. Whether I wasn't smart enough, they didn't need my position, or I was just straight up not good enough.
It got to the point where I had no idea where I belonged, and I was spending countless hours trying to find schools I could play at and reach out to get noticed. By the time I got real help from great coaches, I was already burnt out and second-guessing where I could play.
Looking back, the problem was that I started from a bad baseline. I had an idea of where I thought I could play college baseball, but it was way off. I have seen this problem in so many of my friends, teammates, and other athletes online. We spend so much time curating a list of schools to reach out to without even knowing if they are realistically a fit, rather than just based on feel and our idea of seeing ourselves play there.
The 90% nobody talks about
I spoke with my old high school coach, who has sent over 300 players to play college baseball and has numerous draft picks to his name. One thing really stuck out to me in our conversation when he said:
"If a kid's awesome, he already knows he's going big time because the big-time schools have already reached out to him. Let's say that's 10% of the kids. The other 90% who want to play in college have no idea."
I thought I was alone in not reaching out to the right schools; turns out I was in the majority.
Why I built BaseballPath
This is why I built BaseballPath. There's an entire industry built on keeping you uncommitted. Every month you're still 'exploring options' is another month of subscription fees, another showcase ticket sold, another reason to keep telling you that your dream school is realistic. I fell into that trap, and I'm here to help others avoid it.
How it works
BaseballPath is an honest evaluation for high school baseball players. You first enter some basic showcase-type metrics like your exit velocity, 60 time, or fastball velo, depending on your position. Then you enter your academics, as this is a really important step; most athletes don't think about it at the beginning of their search. Finally, we take in some preferences, whether you care about baseball or academics more, and what part of the country you want to go to school in.
Using this information, we built a model trained on 50,000 pieces of real college recruiting data to give you a list of up to 25 schools that would be a great fit for you. For each school, we consider baseball strength, academic prowess, and roster availability so you don't reach out to schools that don't need you.
Not a typical recruiting service
We are not a typical recruiting service. We just take in your metrics and give you a data-backed list of schools to contact. Our goal is to put you in the right direction, not do all the work for you. In most cases, college coaches don't bother opening emails from recruiters and agencies. A targeted email from a player who actually fits stands out, and you will be ahead of 90% of the pack. We give you an honest snapshot of where you stand and allow you to reach out with confidence.
Try it free during launch
This has been in the works for over a year, and now it's time for the public to benefit. For the first 50 users after launch, you will get your BaseballPath evaluations completely for free. After the first 50, it's a one-time purchase. No subscriptions, no reason for me to keep you uncommitted.
